باتری خالی: یکی از شایعترین خرابیها | Dead Battery — The Most Common Breakdown
A dead or flat battery is the single most common reason drivers need roadside assistance. It can happen due to leaving lights on, extreme cold or heat, an ageing battery, or an underlying electrical fault. The good news is that in many cases you can resolve it yourself with a set of jumper cables and a helping vehicle — if you know the right steps.
نشانههای باتری خالی | Signs of a Dead or Weak Battery
- The engine turns over very slowly or makes a clicking sound when you turn the key
- No response at all when turning the ignition (complete silence)
- Dashboard lights come on but the engine will not start
- The battery warning light was illuminated on your last drive
- Headlights are noticeably dim even after starting

You will need: a set of good-quality jumper cables (at least 3 metres long) and a vehicle with a healthy battery. Follow this order precisely — incorrect connections can damage both vehicles' electronics.
- Park the working vehicle close enough for the cables to reach, but ensure the two vehicles are not touching each other.
- Turn off both vehicles.
- Connect RED cable (+) to the DEAD battery's positive terminal.
- Connect the other RED cable end to the GOOD battery's positive terminal.
- Connect BLACK cable (–) to the GOOD battery's negative terminal.
- Connect the other BLACK cable end to an unpainted metal surface on the engine block of the dead vehicle — NOT to the dead battery's negative terminal. This reduces spark risk near the battery.
- Start the working vehicle and let it run for 2–3 minutes.
- Try to start the dead vehicle. If it starts, great. If not, wait another few minutes and try again.
- Once running, disconnect cables in reverse order — black from engine block first, then black from good battery, then red from good battery, then red from the previously dead battery.
- Drive the revived vehicle for at least 20–30 minutes to allow the alternator to recharge the battery.
احتیاطهای مهم | Important Safety Warnings
- Never connect positive to negative — this will cause sparks and can damage electrical systems.
- If the battery is cracked, leaking, or smells strongly of sulphur, do not attempt a jump-start — call professional assistance.
- On modern vehicles with sensitive electronics, consult your owner's manual before jump-starting.
- Hybrid and electric vehicles require special procedures — standard jump-starting can be dangerous. Always call the manufacturer's roadside assistance.

If the vehicle still does not start after multiple attempts, the battery may be completely dead and unable to hold a charge, or there may be another issue such as a faulty alternator, starter motor problem, or blown fuse. In these cases, you will need a garage to diagnose the fault. Do not continue forcing ignition attempts.
عمر باتری و تعویض | Battery Life and Replacement
Most car batteries last between 3 and 5 years, depending on climate, driving habits, and vehicle type. Iran's hot summers significantly accelerate battery degradation. Have your battery tested annually once it is over 3 years old, especially before long journeys or the cold season. Replacing an ageing battery before it fails is far less costly than a roadside breakdown.
